Dani or Laura, do you know of any place to get any natural antibiotics, if there even is such a thing? Chris is forever getting sinus and ear infections, and we cannot afford to be running to the doctor just to get antibiotics for that every time we turn around.

I know what he needs. He needs probiotics. If he takes probiotics regularly (every day, possibly a couple times a day) he may be able to keep his immune system higher. Taking antibiotics too often is not good and I am pretty sure that in the US only doctors can prescribe them. Also, Ishka ordered online once some of those from a place that made up their own prescriptions but I don't trust it. We kept getting junk mail from that place after he ordered. So, I will find you a link with info about probiotics and you should be able to order them online. I'm pretty sure you guys don't have a nearby natural store.

What are probiotics? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Probiotic)
more about them (http://www.medicinenet.com/probiotics/article.htm)

Why probiotics are useful (http://www.healingdaily.com/detoxification-diet/probiotics.htm)

Where to get probiotics (http://www.drugstore.com/qxc132230_333181_sespider/probiotics/probiotics.htm)

So, I don't know everything about them but the lady at the health food place told me that taking them is a very good idea when you have a low immune system. She also told me if you use antibiotics you should take probiotics after you are done with the antibiotic treatment because antibiotics kill off both good and bad bacteria and probiotics help restore good bacteria.

Hope that was useful.

I have some probiotics that I have taken but not as regularly as recommended for health benefits. I was taking them since I have taken a lot of antibiotics in my life and I figured it would be a good idea in order to help restore some of the good bacteria in my body.

Interesting stuff, Dani! Even though I was thinking of his sinus and ear infections, which none of these things mentioned, he also suffers from lactose intolerance, ibs, and athletes foot and fungus, which they did mention! Weird! Sounds like EXACTLY what he needs! Have you already researched which is the best?

Nope, I don't know which one is best. I'm assuming maybe there are different ones that are better for different problems? The lady at the health food place said it wasn't a huge deal which one you get, but that was just one person so I don't know if she was a 100% correct about that.

I wish I could hook you up talking with my local health food place. They are a wealth of information. :)

I wish I knew a reliable place to ask or to research. You never know, just looking at websites. I prefer to hear actual people's experiences too, instead of just the recommendations of the "experts."

I have an idea for you guys, especially you hubby. You should think about seeing a naturopath.

Here's a description of who a naturopath is..click me (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_of_Naturopathic_Medicine)

I think there could be a naturopath in Roanoke. We even have one here in my dinky town I think so it's a good possibility. I've never actually been to one but I would consider it for sure if it were needed.

Well, if we had any money at all, that would be nice. But right now, I am just looking for the cheapest possible way to help him not get all these infections and junk. I have been asking some people on that homeschool board, and what looks good (and affordable) so far is something called Pearls. And better yet, I can get them through Amazon.

That's good. I'm glad you are figuring things out. I only mentioned the naturopath because they are supposed to be less expensive to see than a usual doctor.

I went ahead and ordered a box of those Pearls. If they don't work, I am not out much. :)

From all my reading, I see that anytime he takes antibiotics, since his immune system is chronically bad, it only sets him up to get sick more often! Not that they are good for anybody, but they are not nearly as harmful for us who only get sick and take them once in a blue moon.

I think antibiotics are good for occasional use but definitely not all the time. And I will repeat that the lady I spoke with recommends taking a "course" of probiotics after having taken antibiotics. And from what she said it is perfectly healthy to take probiotics on a regular basis.

The pearl probiotics that you ordered look pretty good.
I might get those sometime if I can get them from Denmark or Romania and have money.

Though I have not used probiotics I have heard good things about them.
that's about all I can say. I would try them.

I figure it can't hurt, and they aren't too expensive to try and see.
